News: Season 4 has begun! |
 |
 |
|
 |
|
This weeks maintenance was the beginning of the long awaited Season 4. With all team and personal ratings reset to 1500 and the launch of new gear, most of which requiring a rating, the PvP scene was quite busy last night.
I had a few points saved up and had my eye on the gloves and legs, I picked up the gloves right away, [Brutal Gladiator's Kodohide Gloves], and enchanted them with 35 healing. After a few games of 2v2 with Reacts rogue we managed to reach over 1550 rating so I could pick up the legs, [Brutal Gladiator's Kodohide Legguards], which I stuck a [Golden Spellthread] on straight away.
I haven't got any honor saved up to pick up the new S4 off set pieces, but I'll work towards that over time and as I pick up more arena team rating again. I need to get some new shoulders as S1 are pretty much outdated! You can't even get them anymore!!!
I have a few points saved up on my hunter also, so I might pick up an item or two on him also, as I currently have about 300 resilience on him.
For those that haven't seen them, the new sets are as follows:
Druid
Sanctuary
Refuge
Wildhide
Hunter
Pursuit
Mage
Regalia
Paladin
Aegis
Redemption
Vindication
Priest
Investiture
Raiment
Rogue
Vestments
Shaman
Earthshaker
Thunderfist
Wartide
Warlock
Dreadgear
Felshroud
Warrior
Battlegear
And the rating requirements are:
Set Pieces
Shoulders: 2200
Weapon: 2050
Head: 1700
Chest: 1600
Legs: 1550
Offset:
Boots: 1700
Ring: 1650
Bracers: 1575

News: Birth of Severance |
 |
 |
|
 |
|
There have been a lot of changes recently and I just haven't been bothered to keep the site updated...
Basically I won’t be adding a twins write up and I won’t be doing a first look M'uru post as the guild I was in, Unit, has disbanded due to lack of members and enthusiasm to push further into Sunwell.
Following the disbanding of Unit, I haven't been up to much in WoW, but did get together with React and formed Severance, a guild forming for the upcoming expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.
Our goals are simple:-
- To re-unite old friends from previous guilds and servers, this includes Devils Nightmare, Adrenaline and more
- To invite others to join our community of friends and strengthen our raiding team
- To get some raiding experience together in current content
- To push hard and fast in WOTLK for progression in 25man raids
The guild is up and running on Silvermoon and more people are joining each day. If you know anyone who may be interested in joining, either on their current main, or to start a new alt to play for the expansion, get them to whisper me or react in game, or leave a message on the forums here.
There will be a website in development soon, but for the moment we are using the forums on this website.
Contact us in game for Ventrilo details and come and have a chat.

News: Updates! |
 |
 |
|
 |
|
I haven't updated for a while due to lots of reasons... one being that my Photoshop doesn't want to work at the moment, so I can't modify any screenshots, doh!
We have killed twins, quite a while ago in fact, and have even done them reverse for the extra loot! We are currently working on M'uru with our best attempt being 15% on phase one. We are getting the tactics down, just need the ideal set up every day to keep working at it.
I will try and get some proper updates soon with full screenshots etc, just will take a few more days!
As for my druid, well that's now moved over to Silvermoon where hopefully I'll get a more active arena team or two, and my hunter has had a fair amount of upgrades recently!
Most recently was the [Cursed Vision of Sargeras] from Illidan, which was swiftly gemmed up with a [Delicate Crimson Spinel], [Relentless Earthstorm Diamond] and enchanted with a [Glyph of Ferocity]. Zul'Aman has been kind to me and I finally picked up two [Dagger of Bad Mojo] both enchanted with +20 Agility. The Eredar Twins awarded me with a [Golden Bow of Quel'Thalas], two dropped on that kill too! Killing them reverse wields a lot of loot, which is always good! I have currently opted for the old hit scope from MC, [Biznicks 247x128 Accurascope], which has hit capped me at exactly 142.
I have also picked up the bracers from Kalecgos, [Gronnstalker's Bracers], with the +26 Attack Power enchant and a [Shifting Shadowsong Amethyst] and the boots from Felmyst, [Gronnstalker's Boots], enchanted with +12 Agility and currently gemmed with a [Jagged Seaspray Emerald].
This gear sits me hit capped at 1540 armor penetration and just over 2300 RAP which can't be bad!

News: Sunwell Plateau - Felmyst First Kill! |
 |
 |
|
 |
|
Since getting Brutallus down at the start of the month, Felmyst has been our main focus for progression. There is no trash between Brutallus and Felmyst so learning the encounter is faster than most as you get more attempts in a shorter space of time. Felmyst begins by flying around above where you kill Brutallus.
There are a few abilities to watch out for during this encounter which make the fight challenging, which are split across two phases, the ground phase and the air phase. Anyone within 50 yds of the boss will receive an aura de-buff called Noxious Fumes, similar to that of Sapphiron in Naxxramas, which causes 1000 damage every 3 seconds for the duration of the fight, this will be outranged briefly during the air phase. Gas Nova is a nasty ability used only during the ground phase which all members within 50 yards will be hit by. This causes ~2k damage upfront and applies a 30 second DoT draining 1000 mana and 3000 health every 2 seconds. Encapsulate is what primarily kills the raid during ground phases, Felmyst will randomly target a raid member and throw them into the air for around 6 seconds, causing 3500 damage per second to both them and anyone within 20 yards of them.
During the air phase, Felmyst will begin by casting Demonic Vapor on two raid members, one after the other. Similar to Nightbane, this will spawn skeletons which need to be gathered together and killed as soon as possible. Additionally, the vapor will leave a green trail which, if stepped on, will spawn more skeletons so you have to be careful to not be overwhelmed by them. During this phase Felmyst will fly overhead and cast Fog of Corruption either to the North, Middle or South of the area, covering every part of the ground, so there is no hiding from it. Your raid will need to move depending on where it is cast. The fog will mind control any raid member caught in the cloud, this mind control will cause the player to severely increase damage and movement speed and cannot be dispelled by any means.
We spent a few nights with positioning, how best to use melee and ranged DPS while being in range of raid healing and mass dispels, yet being spread out enough to not take too much encapsulate damage. Also the beginning of the air phase was key, we needed to DPS Felmyst as she has a 10minute enrage timer while avoiding the beams and ensuring they don't get kited through to middle to risk more skeletons spawning. Then learning the position of Felmyst and determining where each breath will be cast to give people time to move was also difficult to master, but we got there in the end.
After two weeks on the boss with different raid healing, different numbers of priests and different amounts of melee DPS, it all came together last night where we pulled out all of our best attempts so far.
Felmyst enraged during the final air phase and landed with 9% health remaining, at which time the main tank ran across the other side of the room to give more time to DPS before shield walling buying us a little more time. We took off 7% before the MT died and managed to finish off the last 2 with people still standing, it wasn't the cleanest kill, but with one DPS class dead from ~90% it was a pretty good achievement!
First kill loot was:
Congrats to everyone who took part in the fight over the past couple of weeks to eventually tweak the tactics and get her down, it was a tricky one to learn but we got there in the end, now on to the Twins!

Hunter Upgrades
Our second clear of Brutallus awarded me with the [Gronnstalker's Belt]! I gemmed this up with a [Delicate Crimson Spinel] and am loving the extra armor penetration! With Silvermoon doing well with the Shattered Sun Offensive quests, our server now has the badge vendor unlocked! On the first night it was almost impossible to get anything from him though, with hundreds upon hundreds of people stood on top of the vendor, on and off mounts, it was a struggle to target and interact with the NPC. I managed to though, and picked up the DPS ring, [Angelista's Revenge] for a bargain price of 60 [Badge of Justice]. This ring is very similar to the one from Zul'Aman, [Signet of Primal Wrath], and will be replacing my exalted Hyjal Ring, [Band of the Eternal Champion]. I still have around 200 badges sitting in the bank, I'm saving them for gems mainly as you never know when they can come in handy! I'm still not sure about the new crossbow, [Crossbow of Relentless Strikes], it's supposed to be the "best in slot" weapon for hunters with the exception of the new Legendary from Sunwell, but I'm just not convinced I could keep up the rotation with all the haste we get from Drums of Battle etc during actual fights.
I'm currently sitting at 833 armor penetration without having the two one handers from ZA, with these I would be over 1k!
It's been a while now, but I picked up the [Amani War Bear] after a few ZA runs, Night-elf's look a bit stupid on them, but here's a picture of me anyway:
Druid PvP Gear
This reset I managed enough points to get the Season 3 head, [Vengeful Gladiator's Kodohide Helm]! Compared to my previous Season 1 helm this one is vastly superior. I had to be a bit careful about gems however as I would lose 18stam from not using my previous Meta gem, but instead opting for [Insightful Earthstorm Diamond]. As I don't necessarily need the resilience, I didn't need to go for the socket bonus, I also already had 2 yellow gems needed for the meta bonus, so I went with a [Teardrop Living Ruby] for my gem. The enchant was self explanatory, a [Glyph of Renewal] from Honor Hold Revered.
After some extra honor and mark farming, I had enough to get the [Battlemaster's Perseverance], I now have capped Warsong Marks and nearly AB also, I will be working on Eye of the Storm too, but I hate that BG so I'm more reluctant to do it, we did win around 5 in a row last night though, so 15 marks wasn't too bad for 45mins work!
I want to get 100 marks for all battlegrounds and a decent amount of honor ready for season 4, whenever that may be. I'd like to get a good start as I didn't start arenas until late this season and had no PvP gear to start off with.

News: Sunwell Plateau - Brutallus First Kill! |
 |
 |
|
 |
|
With Kalecgos out of the way it was time to push on to the next boss in Sunwell Plateau, Brutallus.
There was one robot and one group of trash mobs before reaching the boss; this was nice of blizzard following the vast amount of trash on the way up to the first boss. There was nothing new about them so they were easy to get down.
Brutallus you may have seen while doing the daily quests on the Isle of Quel'danas in The Dead Scar. He is a Demon Pit Lord who is a solid gear check encounter, dealing massive melee damage and having a very tight enrage timer of 6minutes where 27.777 raid DPS is needed to break down his 10 million HP.
Brutallus doesn't have many abilities but all of the ones he does have require heavy healing, especially on the Tanks. Stomp is an ability which will only get used on his primary target which deals heavy damage and reduces armor by 50%, on top of this he melees with both hands duel-wield dealing 7000-8000 with his main hand and 3000-4000 with his offhand onto a well geared tank without the stomp de-buff. After the 6 minutes are up he will enrage dealing 500% additional damage and a 150% attack speed increase, allowing him to wipe a raid in seconds. Burn is placed on random raid members every 20 seconds or so. It is a 60 second DoT which deals more damage over time, ending with 3200 and 6000 damage ticks. Anyone who comes within 2-3 yards of someone with burn will gain the DoT themselves meaning with bad positioning this will spread and wipe your raid.
Meteor Slash is the main ability he does; this is a 20,000 fire damage cone attack which spreads the damage amongst all targets hit. This ability is non-resistible and leaves a 40 second stacking de-buff that increases fire damage by 75% per hit. This combined with the final ticks of Burn are a raid killer. In order to avoid this de-buff stacking too much, the raid needs to be split into two soak groups with a tank taunt rotation turning the boss to allow the de-buff to run out on each group.
This was a very challenging encounter to learn, we had initial problems with healing, tank rotations and raid positioning to ensure as many people took the Meteor Slash de-buff as possible to spread the damage. Eventually we started to last the full 6 minutes so needed to start pushing DPS too.
This fight took us two full nights to learn and we finally got him at the start on the 3rd night after a frustrating 1% wipe!!! 80% of the raid actually disconnected at 1% as he died so there was a lot of confusion as to whether he went down or not. I was one of the last people standing at the end and managed to get up everything I could to do additional damage before getting one shotted at the end!
First kill loot was:
Well done to everyone who contributed to the learning of the fight, it was very tough indeed! We are hoping it will go a little smoother next reset!

News: Sunwell Plateau - Kalecgos First Kill! |
 |
 |
|
 |
|
So after learning the trash mobs it was time to learn the bosses, starting with Kalecgos. Kalecgos is an interesting encounter and has new elements to fights seen previously. You must fight two bosses at once, Kalecgos and Sathrovarr the Corruptor.
Both encounters have their own abilities and spells that will be used against you and the key to the battle is to balance your raid across both fights. In order to fight Sathrovarr you must enter portals which are spawned on players randomly, this portal will only remain up for a short amount of time and you must ensure there is balance between healing and DPS at all times.
Outside is the Kalecgos fight; he is a Dragon who has a few abilities which make survival difficult. He casts Arcane Buffet which causes arcane damage to the entire raid and applies a stacking de-buff which cannot be dispelled, this de-buff increases arcane damage taken. The only way to remove the de-buff is to enter a portal. Frost breath is a frontal cone ability which only the current MT to should be receiving, frost damage with a slowing effect which can be dispelled. Also there are random abilities called Wild Magic, which include slower cast times, higher threat, reduced spell costs, increased critical damage, reduced hit chance or increased healing. Lastly, he casts Spectral Blast, which causes a player to be portaled to the spectral realm to fight the demon, leaving behind a portal for other raid members to enter. Anyone stood near the player when they are portaled will receive ~5000 damage, along with the Arcane Buffet this can be deadly.
Positioning is key, and everyone knowing which portals they should enter makes the transitions simple, this takes a while to get right but is easily noticeable when you do.
Sathrovarr the Corruptor doesn't have quite so many abilities but does still require some healing to get through them. The tanks take far more damage from Sathrovarr than Kalecgos also. Sathrovarr casts Curse of Boundless Agony which is a 30 second curse causing more damage each tick as it remains on a player, starting at around 100 and ending on around 3000 per tick. When dispelled, the curse jumps to a nearby player and cannot be outranged, so ensuring that players don't keep the curse for too long but not dispelling too early is a key factor to keeping this under control. Shadow Bolt Volley is cast on a random member inside the portal and will cause shadow damage to them and 2 nearly players, again this is not possible to outrange. You will remain in the spectral realm for 1 minute before being portaled back to Kalecgos outside; upon being portaled back you will receive Spectral Exhaustion. Spectral Exhaustion is a 1 minute de-buff which prevents you from using a portal or being a target of Spectral Blast.
Keeping on top of your raids rotation is very important to ensure you always have healers, de-cursers and tanks in each realm.
Sathrovarr the Corruptor will enrage and cause Kalecgos to enrage when his health drops below 10%. Causing all damage to the tanks to increase and on top of everything else the Demon needs to die first in order to "free" Kalecgos once you defeat him. When Sathrovarr is killed, every 1% taken off Kalecgos will increase his damage by the same amount, so keeping the percentages close towards the end is also important as you cannot escape through a portal to remove the Arcane Buffet any more.
It took us 3 days to master the encounter for the first time, but we managed to get him down eventually!
First kill loot was:
Grats to all who took part, now on to the DPS race that is Brutallus!
